Ford Escort computer issues?
The problem I ran into was, no matter what, the computer refused to spit out any codes. I had to troubleshoot it the hard way. I started simple by checking the obvious, then worked my way to the sensors.
I started checking the voltage at the different sensors and finally found that my TPS was sending some bad spikes at different throttle positions. I changed it and the problem went away.
I pulled the battery cable to reset the computer and so far no more problems and no check engine light. Knock on wood.
Guess a little patience and a volt/ohm meter pay off.My question is, do you think the computer is starting to go bad as it wouldn't spit out any codes? I'm hoping to get this car to last until next summer. I really don't want to throw more money into it.
Sorry for the long post and thanks for any input!
My 1993 Escort has the same issue. I bought a code reader many years ago, and with or without the check engine light, the thing has never given me a code of any kind. Lots of trouble shooting the hard way.
The point here was that even with the diagnostic issues, the car is still running and driving fine. 225,000 miles and counting!
