A hypothetical question regarding x-plan, ordering and incentives.
Suppose I walk into the dealer with my x-plan pin and wish to order a truck. At the time of ordering, let's say they have $5000 cash back and 1.9% financing.
The truck arrives 12 weeks later to the dealer. On the delivery date to me, the cash incentive is down to $1000, and financing is at 5.9%.
Which, if any, incentives do I get? Those present when I ordered, those present when I took delivery, or any combination thereof?
You get the incentives in effect at delivery. The incentives when you ordered are not relevant.
That's not exactly correct (at least not here in Canada). Here, most of Ford's incentive programs are "rain checkable". This means that the buyer gets his choice of what was in effect when the order was placed, or what is in place when it is delivered, whichever is better. This applies to both the finance rates and rebates.
The only condition is that you can't mix and match a portion of what was offered at the time the vehicle was ordered with a portion of what is offered at the time of delivery. Meaning, for example, you can't combine a rate that may have been lower when ordering (but is higher when the truck is delivered) with a rebate that may be larger at delivery than it was when the order was placed. Its all or nothing of what was the better of the incentives offered at either the time of ordereing or delivery.
This is really a great deal for Canadian customers as the overall deal usually only gets better between ordering and delivery. This has worked in my favour for my last 3 trucks.
That being said, this may, or may not be the case in the U.S.
When I ordered my truck from Jeff Clark 2 1/2 years ago, that is what made me finally pull the trigger and order. I could order my truck, get exactly what I wanted and get at least the rebate that was offered on the day I placed the order. Of course it went up a little and I got that amount instead. I am not sure I would have ever ordered a truck if there had not been a guarantee like that. I might still be sitting on the fence today. As a matter of fact, right now I am going back an forth on getting an F150 as a second truck. And if I could get a rebate guarantee like that again, and of course get the price I am looking for, I might just go ahead. If not, I'll likely not be buying anything too soon because getting exactly what I would want would be awfully hard if not impossible to find.
