Heated wands

Trying to find the 18 to 24" electric wands that help reduce condensation. Can't remember what they are called so google search has not been helpfull. Buddy is storing an engine and set 1 underneath in a plastic bag and condensation has not been a problem. Also sets 1 inside cab with same results. Been told 15w bulb will do the same, kinda don't want to make it easier for potention thieves. Any source or suggestions appreciated.

Looks like many of the products they offer are for industrial use, lot of volts, watts, etc. There are couple items that look interesting and offer options. Appreciate the referral.

I always used two light bulbs. One on all the time and another one of a different color like RED on a photoelectric eye. That way when the first bulb burned out the second bulb would turn on and signal a warning. This worked real good for reptile cages also. Use a plywood box.

That's it. Emailed requesting a price quote. Knowing what they are called may be able to shop and compare prices. Thanks for the info.

Appreciate the referral, appears better price than I have been able to find. Found local boat dealer keeps a supply on hand for few $ more but it includes tax. Anyhow, placed wand in bag with engine and has'nt been a drop of moisture. Also, place 1 inside cab with same results. Again, thanks to all for the input.

24" 15 watt., probably could have gone w/ less watt's, 8-12 watts would probably be sufficient, purchased only size rods shop had left. Believe person I got idea from is using the 18" 12 watt rod. See online site offers an 8 watt rod for gun cases. If one were to consider purchasing, might try a 5 watt bulb and see how well it works. Recommends placing rod beneath area/item for best results. Initially set rod inside bag along the side of engine and detected slight condensation at the top of the bag the next day. Then placed rod on the bottom of bag and there has been no evidence of moisture since. Requires too much brain power for me to calculate how many burnt bulbs it will require for rod to pay for itself, likely long after I am pushing up daiseys, still think prefer the rod.

I don't think a light bulb is the best choice because they are less reliable.

But if a bulb is used, select a "long life" bulb that is two or three times the wattage you want and operate it off a rheostat so you can run the bulb at 1/2 or 1/3 it's rating and that will prolong it's life for years.

That is why I use the dual bulb setup in post #4, very reliable.
