help with hitch mounting

hey everyone

i have an 89 fullsize bronco. i wanna put my hitch on it but i still have to drill the holes my problem is the the flange from the gas tank is butted right up to the frame rails so i cant even get my hand in the rail to tighten the bolts

any suggestions?

I've done several of these. Put your hitch against the frame, mark for your holes. Drill your holes. Put the hitch back in place. Then you take a light gauge wire and wrap it around the threads of a mounting bolt (starting towards the top of the threads and go down towards the end of the bolt) and and leave approx 18-24" of wire leading away from the bolt. OR Tac weld a piece of mig wire to the center of the bottom of the bolt. Fish the wire into the frame (around the nearest end of the gas tank), and down thru the hole. Pull the wire thru and then the bolt. Generally you can just put an open end wrench on the bolt head while tightening the nut. Some hitches come with lead wires tac welded to the mounting bolts from the factory.
