Can going with too big of a pipe make it cackle like going too small? My truck has a 4.9 and im redoing the exhaust once again. Im leaving on the efi manifolds, y pipe, hiflow cat, and after that i want 3" pipe. Now i know everything about low end backpressure and gas velocity....so please dont give me that lol. With the cat and y pipe theres plenty of pressure...drove it like that for a while before. But back to the main point...will single 3" make it cackle??? (even after the cat, on a 4.9)
Cackle? Like a chicken?
I do know that, unless you've built this 300 for racing and will be regularly turning 6000 RPM, a 3" exhaust pipe is just wasted money and unnecessary weight.
I know this because I was an exhaust development engineer at Ford in the '70s and '80s, and I ran hundreds of noise, backpressure, and performance tests on 300s in everything from vans to Broncos.
Put your money where it'll do you some good.
