New user Question

I recently purchased a '01 250 V10 to pull my 6500lb TT. Can't wait till spring!!!

Based on what I have been reading on this forum, I should be very pleased with the performance. It does have almost 300,000 miles (every mile a highway mile) on it but I do plan on dropping in an engine next year sometime.

Please ignore my ignorance but what does BSEG stand for?

Cheers

With 300K, I guess I'm a little unsure when it might let go. There are no signs of it. It sounds normal, still runs strong and uses no more than a quart of oil between changes. I hope to find a good low mileage engine.

Maybe just a rebuild? If your looking for an engine I suggest Ebay. There was a really nice engine there a week or so ago and it was cheap. Not sure if it got sold or not. Now I am really happy to have a V-10 knowing that there are motors out there with 300,000 miles on them and still running great.

Heck, I'd be more worried about the transmission than the engine at this point. I've seen V10s with 15K that use a quart of oil between 5K changes...especially when synthetic is used. Figure if the truck is all highway miles...it's been cruising around at way less than half it RPM range it's whole life. In human terms, you can walk a lot longer than you can run.

300K is quite a testimony to these engines! Drive and enjoy.

one of the guys found a tow truck v10 powered with 400k on it. worry don't be. if you feel so unsafe get a ford motorcraft rebuilt with a nice 3 year 75k warrenty and be real safe

plus welcome to fte and the clean world of the v10. and chaeper fuel right now.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys.

I'm in PEI Canada so the odometer is metric so when people see 493750 they find it hard to believe. Most people think it's 49 thousand when they first look at it.

I am still trying to get used to it's unique sound. I don't think I've had it past 3000 RPMs yet. After I pull the trailer for a while I'm sure I will.

Monsta, the trannie was replaced with a rebuilt spring '06 and has less than 20K on it so I feel quite comforable with that end of it. Unfortunately the previous owner barely ever used the front hubs so I just had to spend $1,000 getting one replaced, all new seals and one u-joint replaced. We get snow in these parts so I need them.

Oh well, if you want to play you gotta pay.

Cheers

when you pull your TT. look in the mirror once and a while to see if the TT is still there. these V10's are great to pull a TT down the road. When you hit 2500 rpm you will feel an istant surge of power all the way up to 3500 rpm. running my excursion with overdrive off i can run at 65mph with the tach around 2600 or 2700 rpm. when a hill is in the horizon just stay steady and the tranny will not shift down. the engine just pull you up the hill. I have a 2wd and a 300 mile trip i average 11.5mph!!
happy camping

I get my BSEG when I pull up to a stop next to a ricer racer and I am hooked up to my 7,000 Lb Travel trailer. When the light turns green I almost always get the jump on them even pulling my trailer for about the first 50 feet or so. It really torques their jaws to see a pickup pulling a trailer beat them off the line. (hee, hee)
