Question Answer this question?

What is it called when a company turns your frame into a magnetic. It picks up like a powder coating and is suppose to have a 20 year guarantee after completed. It turns out like glass, by that I means is a smooth and extremely hard finish. Has anyone heard of this? My brother in law was talking about this tonight. I can have my frame done by a cousin of his. He works for a company and would just put it in line for a very reasonable cost. I would have to take the color they were running that day, though greys and blacks are done every week from what he tells me. My brother in law is having his new trailer coated. I think it called electro plating, but I am having a brain lapse at them moment and cant remember what he called it for sure.

I cant remember, I will have to ask him tomorrow. I am going to have the frame from the cabover done. He said if we take them together they might just get ran through. Let's see.

Powdercoating? Is the frame baked after it is coated?

Powder coating is what it is. I talked to him this morning. He was calling it electro coating last night. What is a fair price to have a frame powder coated? I want to have the 52 cabover frame done once I have it taken apart. It seems like the way to go if it is affordable.

The frame has to be thoroughly de-greased and sandblasted first; are they going to do that? That is a major part of the cost.

3-500.00 depending on how much prep work is done by the coater. I would be sure to clean any and all gunk off before taking it to them.

Best bet is to do the prep work youself, but if you want a real show shinner, do as much prep as you can, have them media blast it and powder coat it..

there is a place here in town that does both and i think its around $650-800 depending on the work load.

Make sure you have done all the repairs and welding you're going to do, it's near impossible to retouch it.

Any holes that bolts go thru need to be plugged, the powder will shrink the size of the hole and it's a Bear to remove.

I will make sure I plug all the holes I need. I will be doing the prep work for it. As I said I may get it done for next to nothing as long as I don't care if it is grey. I don't so it may just get put in line. I wont be ready for awhile yet but it is sure nice to know where to go now. I was paying 450.00 just for sandblasting and paint.

Why not wait til they're doing gloss black? Not sure grey will look right.
