I just hope the Ash trees doesn't end up like the American Chestnut trees...
I live in Southern Ohio near the Ohio River where there have been no confirmed infestations so far...even though we have some sickly looking ash trees.
If you live in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio or Ontario this might concern you.
I was at Niagra Falls Canada for a few days in the summer and talked to several locals who acted like they had no idea what I was talking about...so I don't know much about Canada and this little pest.

Had the same problem many years ago with the Dutch Elm disease. Wiped out the American elm trees from coast to coast. Seemed to take a little longer with related species.
Bark beetles have decimated the trees here in SoCal, creating a huge red flag fire hazard. But as bad as it is here...Alaska is far worse...thousands of acres of dead trees.
Drought is the cause, dry conditions make it impossible for the trees to protect themselves against the beetles.
Yep, it is here in Ontario. The whole area around me is under quarantine. No ash wood, wood chips or material is allowed off your property unless you get it inspected by a Government person.
I can see a lot of $$$$$$ in the future of my Dad and I's business.
They are trying to slow it down but they will NOT be able to stop it until (if) they find a cure for it. And yes Eric, it will be just like the Dutch Elm disease.
There was an article in our local paper about this a couple of weeks ago. Anyone caught taking Ash wood out of the county would be fined by the piece. 4 grand a piece if memory serves. I think it was PG county(thats for you Wolfie).
