Has anyone ever painted there valance... im wanting to match myne to the truck... getting a paint that is close and will stick to the plastic would be pretty hard i guess.... im wanting it to be smooth to like the body.... any help woud be apprciated... thanks
For what it is worth. The valance comes in either gray or desert tan from the factory or as a replacement part. If you have a tan truck then bingo.
Plastics are notorious for shedding paint. I know bumper covers are plastic so the factory has a way of getting the primer to adhere. My guess is the primer has a reactive chemical that will etch the plastic and cause a molecular bond.
It's possible, I thought there was an article on here about someone doing it to their truck. I tried looking but can't find it now, I think they had a black truck and painted the valance black.
Have a hunt around, it is possible and has been done.
I've painted several plastic valances (& other parts) over the years. Obviously the first consideration is do you have the spray equipment/proper materials?
Your local body shop supply house will have either factory-pack paint in qt size or be able to mix the paint code. Start with a plastic prep wipe-down, follow with a sprayed adhesion coat (clear etching material), and finish with topcoat(s) mixed with flex-additive.
Ya i have the equipment available... and i know the paint code since i did the truck myself... im just wanting to find a way to get the paint to stick...and yes flex aditive is a must... lol thanks guys

Well then the plastic prep and adhesion coat is the key. It's been a (long) while since I've used the stuff, but I believe it was called exactly that: 'Adhesion Coat'. Clear, sticky stuff that sprayed on quite easily straight from the bottle. That's your primer if you will.
