That's surprising that you saw no difference. I saw a huge difference by just going to a K & N and Gibson exhaust on my '97 5.4. BTW, I have a '06 PSD.
I always felt like it was the shifting pattern set by the computer, but Ford always said, "Nope, everything is normal." The chip made a little bit of a difference, but not enough to warrant having to switch to Super U/L for me. The exhaust is one thing I didn't do. Maybe that is the big factor for the 5.4. Who knows... For the money I shelled out on my first new vehicle, I just wanted it right. I was pretty bent. At least I don't have to worry about it anymore. I have a ton more power and much better fuel econ

Diesels are a completely different story. You'll see a BIG difference.
My '99 F-250 (see signature) pulls better than an F150 and holds the road better.....It should. It's heavier. It cruises easily at 70 mph without a trailer. It's the 2 valve, 5.4 liter. With 4.10 gears it suits me fine. Gas mpg is 14-16. I've read that the V-10 gets about the same. So, I'd go with a V-10 if I was in your shoes, especially if I was in hilly terrain and towing quite a bit. But, in my mind, the diesel would be the ultimate in towing performance. If you are talking about accelaration from a stop light, I wouldn't pit my F-250 against those Silverados. But, old guys quit that stuff a long time ago.
anyone got the mpg's for the 06 deisel with 3.73 rears 4x4 in the crewcab body with an auto tranny too? i need to get an idea since i spotted one that i want
Keep in mind your talking about an almost 8,000 pound truck with the rough aerodynamic properties of a brick. If you want fuel economy, buy a light, little car. If you have work to be done, get a Super Duty.
try a $600 V10 option! to stay with gas power plant go V10! i still don't see why they don't offer the V10's and PSD's standard.........them make a 5.4 "special order" option! i've talked to, and heard alot of diapointed 5.4 owners (in SD's that is)! and your 5.4 probably gets about the same MPG that a V10 will/does, but a 10er will have the power you want! and heck it's an extra $600..........you can't add $600 to a 5.4 and get the same torque that a V10 has!
if a PSD (at a whopping $5K) don't fit your budget, or needs and your wanting to stay with gas..........go V10!!
I totally agree!!!!!! Go with the V10 if you like gas and want power.
In September I bought a SD250 with a 5.4L and was very disappointed in performance of the engine. I am looking to trade it in for the exact same truck but with a diesel for the power plant. The dealer says "No Problem", but it's going to cost me $10,000. What do you think? Am I stuck or does this sound resonable?
It's only "worth it" if you think it's worth it and have that kind of money to spare. None of us can make that decision for you. Me, I'd never spend $10,000 for an upgrade like that. For that kind of money I could buy an old civic (for high mpg) AND and old F-350 with a 460 (for real grunt).
I agree with the other members...that you should look into a V10. Only issue...is finding one. The '07 are all but gone...and forget about finding a new '06.
The PS 6.0 with tranny is about 8K option on 06 (on my sticker anyways)
Just bought a F250 2006 PS 6.0 with torqshift and love it! Getting around 20 on the hwy, 14 in town. Just installed the Edge EZ and will see if it really improves MPG. Didn't need the extra HP or torque but it does make the midrange unreal! Can't say enough about this truck!
