I went offroading a bit yesterday, now my truck wont shift from 2nd to 3rd, once it hits the point where its supposed to shift i get the OD code light blinking and it dont shift up, any clues, i dont want to have to go out and buy a damn code reader, and autozone dont offer free code readings anymore. For a little more background I soaked everything in muddy water, driving through rather deep mud puddles. Engine was brown with mud, but i hosed it down and cleaned it all up.
You might have gotten water into one of the many connectors on the tranny.
Being careful not to mix things up, disconnect any connectors you see going to the tranny and see if they are wet or corroded.
Also, the VSS (the speed sensor on top of the rear differential housing) can go bad, or the connections might be dirty, and that'll give you the blinking OD light, but usually the speedo also freaks out.
Does the speedo show the correct speed when it won't shift into 3rd?
