okay i am considering getting another set of rear gears. (FOR SHORT TERM HIGHWAY USE) gonna be seeing a lot of highway time in the near future and i have been fortunate enough to aquire a spare third member for my 9". now what im curious about is how tall can i go and still have some response from the motor. I am looking at either 2.50's or 3.00's. I currently run 3.50's front and rear will not be locking in the front end with the mismatched gears in the rear.
James, I think a 2.50 might be hard to come by, but the 3.00 is fairly plentyful, and cheep. I run a 3.00 in my truck and tow with it. It was built for crusing and not stump pulling, so smoking the tires is out. IMHO
I had a set of 2.75's in a '78 F150 with a 460. While the truck did get decent mileage, it always felt undrpowered and wasn't much good for the towing I do. Parting that thing out was the best thing I ever did for that truck.
