how low do you want to go? lowered I beams give i think about 3 inches of drop, but you can cut a few coils out of the springs to get you a little lower still. take out too many coils and you will have camber issues. if you want to drag your frame rails you need to go with a mustang II kit.
you have a couple of choices...
A. lowered I beams, there are a few companies that sell kits.
B. mustang II kits, there are several hot rod mags that have countless companies that sell complete kits.
C. if you have way to much time on your hands you can do like me and use a lincoln Mark III front clip.... (look at my gallery to see the amount of work and fabrication involved in this venture.)
in conjunction with these possibillities you can add air bags to make the ride nice and smooth and you can still pull a trailer or haul rocks and dirt. as far as the rear goes...you can't go wrong with a four link. it all comes down to dollar signs.
Yup, what tgowers said on the front. The IFS kits work out well, probably a whole lot less labor intensive then welding on a different front frame.
An easy and cheap way to lower the rear is the old rear axle flip. Remove the spring perches from the rear end housing, weld them on the bottom of the housing and install the axle on top of the springs. Use spacer blocks if you want it lower. I did this on my '71, and moved the shocks outboard to help the ride stability. Pics in my gallery if you are interested.....
Nice looking project you got going there Dave. Can't wait to hear how those shocks affect the ride and handling.
Well, moving them outboard will add stability to the truck.... Like you I am curious to see how much.... Thanks for the compliments on my '71... I've had it for 15 years, never have managed to get it finished because of other projects or customer cars taking priority...... Hopefully during this Holiday slowdown I'll have time to get it done.... Stilll might drop some bucks on the dropped I-beams for it, not sure...
I dropped my 72 by cutting 2 coils, this is about the limit without messing up the camber and eating tires. Since then I have installed DJM dreambeams good for 3" and a flip kit out back. Air ride bags front and back will let you slam it parked and have a decent ride.
