Alright. I bought a 1988 F-150 4x2 300 I6 in July. I am getting a 1989 F-150 4x4 next weekend. What is involved in moving the 4x2 body to the 4x4 frame? I have done this to Chevrolet's before, but I am new to Fords.
I have never done it, but was contemplating doiing it many times. Its all the same issues as with the Chevies...If I were going to do it, I would leave the cab as complete as possible and install it as a unit to save time. You need to start by unbolting the bed and then the front clip. I would lave the cab whole, separate the steering column at the shaft, separate the brake lines from the MC. unbolt the wiring harness at the cab and to swap the cab pretty much intact. It'll weigh more, but save stime in the long run as you wont need to reassemble the entire interior. Though I never swapped a cab, I have removed one from the frame, and it required torches to get the bolts...JimB
The 1989 F-150 4x4 will be here on Friday. The '89 wupposedly needs a new high-pressure fuel pump, but I have access to a parts truck, so no real issues there. It also had old gas in it, so it may just need flushed, but I will know as soon as I check the inertia switch (Thanks Subford) and then turn the key and see if the pump cycles. I should be able to just get a title for the 89 in a month or two, so I may just get it to running again and wait it out.
