I will have had my '03 F 150 4 years in April of '07 and it has 62 K miles.
I want to change the coolant and replace the hoses.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I should do this?
How much coolant will be left if I drain the radiator and remove the plug on the left side of the block?
I know some will be left in the block. What brand of antifreeze will mix with what is left?
If I flush with plain water some will be left in the block. How do I mix the new antifreeze to get the 50/50 mixture?
Thanks,
John
First off I would leave the hoses alone. The hoses today are really good and unless they have issues (cracking/bulging) them I wouldn't change them.
I would replace your coolant with whatever color antifreeze you currently have in your truck and just add the 50/50 mix. After you've driven it, and the system has had a chance to mix, check it to see where your freeze protection is at. Then I would add anti-freeze to it as needed to get the correct mix.
be careful just matching anti-freeze by color. be sure of what you have and what you are getting. don't want to see you mix elc with standard ethel glycol. very bad.
