I own a 2001 F250 6.8l and lately it's been running sluggish. Loss of power, low idle and eventually stalling. It's been colder out in the morning lately so of course it's been acting up really bad in the mornings. I have a feeling my a/c is somehow stuck in the on position. It feels like the a/c's on but the switch is in the off position. Then when i put the a/c switch on to see if that made a difference, there was no difference in the engine idle and the air wan't cold. Which leads me to think there's an a/c problem. Any body ever had this problem or have some opinions? thanks.
Sorry if you already read this. wrong section. I have a 2001 f250 s/d 6.8l . My problem is that the truck has been really hard to keep running lately. Especially in the mornings. It's been lacking power, low idle and eventually stalling. But once it get's warmed up it's fine..but still has low idle. I have a feeling my a/c is stuck in the on position somehow. When i turn the a/c on it makes no difference..idle a/c cyle. Any body have any idea's? thanks.
If the a/c is stuck on...it should raise the idle not lower it. Humm...
My first check would be the Idle Air Control (IAC). You can try and remove it and clean it with electronic's cleaner. Also...might want to clean the MAF sensor while in there. Look in my gallery...I have a step-by-step with the IAC removal and install.
When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? How many miles on your V10?
I had the same problem with my 99. It was the Idle air control module, it gets all carboned up and doesnt work well. Dont let the dealer talk you into cleaning it and reinstall, I did and it let me down 3 days later. Spend the 68.00 and put it on and you should be good to go, my first one went at 65,000 miles. Hope this helps ...........
I have some opinions and advice.
Depending on the maitenance that has been performed and the mileage on the vehicle
Items that problably need chk and or changed
change/air filterairfilter
clean the maf
plugs/boots changed
clean or replace IAC
Chk fuel pressure
change fuelfuel filter filter
Let us know more about your vehicle

Well, the a/c is working fine. I changed the plugs, the air filter is clean, changed the fuel filter but it's still doing the same thing. Like i said it only does it bad in the morning or if it's been sitting for a while. Also i've noticed that it takes a long time to warm up. But when it gets going, it runs perfect. Idle seems a little low to me but it stays running fine. About my truck, i live in a pretty dusty area.. so i always focus on keeping my air filter clean . When i got the old fuel filter off it was pretty clogged. Is there any possibility that my fuel injectors need cleaned/replaced?
I have about 94k on the truck. I just changed the plugs and fuel filter. And that didn't have any effect on the situation. The truck runs alot smoother once it gets going, but still hard to start in the morning or at any time for that matter. After reading around it sound like a few of you guys have all said something about the IAC so i think i wil look into that.
Also, I moved this thread to the V10 forum, because it's more about the V10 specifically.
Sounds like the IAC (Idle Air Control motor) is bad. Happens a LOT. It's like the choke/high-idle on old carb'd vehicles. When the motor is cold, the computer uses the IAC to raise the idle.
Do that first, it's a $30-40 part, and easy to switch. Make sure the ports in the throttle body are clear when you take the old IAC off.
The EGR is another idea, but try the IAC first. 99% of the vehicles we hear about with idle problems, it turns out to be the IAC.
Good luck, and GET BACK TO US with the results. If it doesn't fix it, we'll continue to work with you to get to the bottom of the problem.
