Drive Shaft Question
I have a 53F100 that I am putting a 302 with a C6 tranny and have a stock Dana rear end with a 3.92 ratio. The truck did not have a motor, tranny or driveshaft when I bought it. I have access to a driveshaft out of a 1987 F150 and was wondering if anyone knows if this shaft would fit. I know it may have to be shortened but I am mainly concerned about the yokes. It will fit on the tranny side because I am useing the C6 tranny out of the F150 but will it fit the rear end side? Thanks for any help someone may be able to give me.

Drive Shaft Question
They make u-joints that will adapt things over. Take the driveshaft with the u-joint you have to your local Napa store. Get them to look up and get the u-joint for the original rear yoke on the old truck. If they have the bearing cup diameters, and the width, they should have a u-joint that will fit. That's how I did mine on my 53. I also installed a slip yoke out of a early bronco into my 80 4x4 by using a u-joint that adapted it over.

Drive Shaft Question
I just got two "conversion" U joints at my local drive shaft shop. I found out that ALL Ford F-1 - F100 48-66 had all the same u joints originally. The cap dia is 1.063"-1.064" and a 3 7/32" yolk width. These numbers plus the measurments for the driveshaft end and you'll be in business. The u joints were cheaper at the driveshaft shop then at the parts store, and the parts store had to special order them.Good luck, Rich.

Drive Shaft Question
if ya gt a wreckin yard that will letcha walk around just take a measuring tape with ya and checkout every driveshaft ya come across that looks close.....actually some yards have a pile of shafts ya can paw thru. i just completed a s/b chevy conversion in my 58 merc 100 & ended up that a l/b reg cab s-15 shaft was exactly right(including the $10 price tag), just hadta buy the adapter universal for one end.....lot more cheaper & y'know the balance should be there in the driveshaft if it is factory made.

Drive Shaft Question
A '76 Granada shaft was just right lengthwise for a 302/AOD in a '50 F1. It had the correct joint at the rear and used the same yoke as the AOD. I don't know about C6 splines, but there is probably a yoke that will work without trick joints. I would stay away from trick joints, you can't always find them in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night........
