I live in south louisiana and since this is my first winter with a diesel, purhaps i'm just a late bloomer in figuring this out!
When I crank my truck in the morning, it idles at about 1000 or so, then drops down about 150 or so as soon as i put my foot on the brake. Is this normal? Does it only do this when it is cold? I don't remember it doing it for the last 7 months.
Everything is just fine. Whenever its cold the high idle automatically come on until you hit the brakes. Don't get this confused with the SEIC (stationery elevated idle control). This can be wired up to work and is manual controlled.
Thats good to know. My experience with smaller truck diesels are on Excursions and Suburbans and I always wondered about that rpm drop when I shifted into gear and had my foot on the brake.
