Performance Mods

I have a 1998 Ranger 2.5L 2wd single cab. I've searched high and low in all the places i can think of but cant find any performance mods. Does anyone have an idea of where i can find some stuff( airraid intake, turbo, superchip, ect...)? I'm looking to get it way above the stock 100 hp at the rear wheels. I'd like to see around 250-300rwhp but dont know if its possible. I would like some info and ideas if anyone has any.

You could start with a couple of our sponsers here at fte, jusnesmodified and motorheaven and if you don't see, they may be able to help you find it. Another good sourse for lima 2.5 parts, would be racer walsh, he does the high powered 2.5's, like forged pistons, cams, ported head and so on. The weak link on these engines is the head for making big power, so you'll want to port and polish the head, or buy one. You will need a turbo to reach those power numbers. A lot of guy's get the turbo coupe motor from an 87-88 T- bird, or mercury mekur. Every body does the 5.0 thing, I'm glad to see someone take a different route. 4 cylinders are fun, easy to work on and light. Check with motorheaven and jusnesmodified first to see what all they have and go from there. You'll find they have a large inventory of namebrand parts and great prices. they may even post on this thread to help you out.

cool thanks for the tips ill have to check them out. I'd like to keep the engine pretty much in tacked(dont want to do an overhaul) because it has a million frickin sensors all over it and i dont want to mess with unpluging them all in the event of a motor pull...Plus this truck is my daily driver and my only vehicle running at the moment. So im pretty much looking for inexpensive quick bolt on performance parts. Stuff i can do in a few hours or maybe a weekend.

OK, then you won't want a turbo, it would be time consuming and you should change the pistons out to forged ones. Just look at the sponsers sites. you'll want a bama programer, an intake, a header and catback exhaust, then throw on an electric fan and under drive pulley, that will wake the truck up a little and get you the fun factor. One of the biggest improvements you can do to a 4 banger truck, is gears, a set of 4:56's will do wonders.

If you pull the radiator cap off, and drive a Lightning underneath it, you will have it!!!!

BMW made a 4 cyl Formula One engine that made 1100 hp back in the 90's. I think all it would take is probably $1.4M and room and board for several factory engineers and it's yours man!

But anyway, you COULD make that kind of power with an engine of that size, but not with the stock rotating assembly. It would take some serious boost or nitrous to see 300 rwhp. Hell, most bolt on F150s with the new 5.4 dont even see 300 at the wheels.

Any bolt on mods you do to the 2.5 probably wont net you any more than 10-15% more power than you already make. A bamachips tuner should be first on your list, then gears probably. The gears wont make power, but they transfer it to the ground in such a way that it will greatly improve its performance "feel"

For mods for your truck, I encourage you to check out our site, www.jusnesmodified.com

At least you don't need little hands to work on a motor like that, is that the biggest they got ha ha.

Hey Jusnes, I thought you had an intake that showed good results on the 4 banger, I don't remember if it was the lima or duratec, also, does anyone make udp's for the lima? That seems to be real popular with the 4 cylinder crowd, except on the duratec, where if it's not installed perfect, it will drop a valve, cause it's an interface motor or whatever they call it.

I dont have any test results with an intake, it was the bamachips tuner that made 14/20 on a duratec. Which is pretty impressive.

The only 4 cyl pulley that i can get is for the 94-95 2.3
