Newbie question

I got my 2005 Explorer with 25K miles on it a few months ago. I really like it. Sometimes when we drive the car very slowly, like out of a parking space, the transmission seems to slip a little. It will slip just a tiny bit and then fall into gear. It doesn't happen all the time, maybe once a month. The dealer checked it twice and found nothing. The dealer documented it in his service records in case we have a problem later. Should I persue this problem or is it normal?

Probably the solenoid sticking a little, although it was more of a problem with 03/04 models. They changed the MERCON V formula before the '05 models came out to prevent this problem.

Did you recently get the transmission flushed somewhere? If they used to wrong formulation it can cause this.

Another possibility to think of, the rear differential clutches sometimes slip a little, causing a very similar sensation and noise as a transmission slipping... this typically occurs on very sharp turns (parking lot maneuvers) while accelerating.

Joe -

Do you have stability control or the standard (1-1/4") receiver hitch? If so, then the clutch packs aren't an issue because you don't have a LS rear end. Like RangerGuy mentioned, it sure sounds like a sticking solenoid. Keep an eye on it, 'cause it's probably not gonna improve with age.
