After reading a lot of posts on this site, I still can't seem to find the answer to my problem. I have a 94.5 Superduty with a PSD. Currently the truck is at a repair shop that has just given up on being able to fix it. This is also why I don't know the milage at the moment. Here is the problem & what lead up to it. Drove truck about 1 mile to the store, everything acted normal. When leaving to return home, about 1 or 2 blocks from the store the engine suddenly got quiet. Was driving at about 25 mph, not accel. or decel. traveling toward an intersection about 1/4 mile ahead. This quiet lasted for roughly 5 or 6 seconds and then the regular diesel sound returned with no input on my part. I tapped the throttle, responded normally. Coming to the stop light, pushed in the clutch and suddenly the engine was just dead. Would crank over at ~100rpm showing on the tach. Plenty of fuel in both tanks. After having it towed home, I have looked at fuel flow, filters, fuel heater, fuses, fusible links, oil level, HPOP reservoir level, and probably a couple of other things with no problems found. Towed to a shop, scanned codes - none found. They have changed out the IDM with no sucess, although it was a used one, and said they even tried changing computers, again with a used one, with no success. They also replaced the CPS initially, again, no change. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to include as much detail of things tried as I could. I am at wits end with this problem, the shop feels the same way at this point. Its even worse considering it is my bosses truck which he loaned me over a weekend to move some furniture for a friend. Any help or suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated, and thanks ahead of time for any help.
Do you get a wait to start light??? How cold is it where you are? What is the fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fpr? Did you check that screen? Is fuse #22 Good?
Wait to start light comes on, verified power to the glow plugs at the relay terminals. I didn't check the fuel pressure, but the mechanic that has been working on it said he did check it and it was good. Fuse #22 is good, verified with a test light. Temps lately have been lows of around 45-50 with highs in the 60's to low 70's. When this first occured it was Sept. and quite a bit warmer. The screen is one thing I didn't check, and don't know if the mechanic at the shop did. I will call today and check with him. I did check the fpr spring that I have read can break and cause problems, it seemed fine, or at least not broken. Oh, I also checked the wiring harness connections at the valve covers, and all contacts looked good, no melted plastic or visible damage. What do you think the chances are of the screen causing problems?
