I have been noticing a slight problem. When i have the dome light on and hit something that needs electirical power the dome will dim then light back up again. (example: dome light on and hit the brakes and the dome light will dim while the brake lights are on.) I went to auto-zone today and had them test my alternator and the test showed that the alternator was putting out 190 amps. I'm not 100% but the alternator should only put out 130 amps? Is the problem the alternator? The guage on the dash showes the batter in the normal range. The battery teminals are clean and the battery is new in perfect working condition. What is my problem here any help would be great i dont want to fry any wires. Thanks in advance!
yep, around 2000 rpm is where they hit peak power, There is a cut off so it doesnt go too high and overcharge- the voltage regulator does this. But your problem doesnt sound like voltage, the amperage is too high, ive never heard of an alternator putting out that much.
we need to know more, do all lights dim? headlights? how bright are the headlights with the car off compared to with it on?
How is the negative battery cable? here is a good rule to follow WS=BG
Weird stuff (*****) = bad ground.
I dont rember the voltage for sure but i think he said right around 14. As far as the head lights they are brighter with the truck on but not a whole lot. They dont dim at least not from what i can tell from in the cab i'm going to have some get in stand in front of the truck and see if i can see them dim from the outside. I am also going to take it somewhere else and have it tested again and see if maybe their machine was off. The guy that did the test seemd a little off so you never know!
