Cold Air Intake

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger with a 2.3L. I was wanting to put a cold air intake on it, what's the best aftermarket cold air intake product? Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to this message.

Volant is the way to go with your 2.3L

I have one in my F150 and it's my favorite intake i've used.

We have them here at the Motorhaven shop for your truck, this product page has very useful reviews too:
http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/air-intakes/60A1817A0A0A1948184.aspx?kc=MOTORH

The promo code FTEDEAL will give you $20 bucks off the Volant when thrown in our shopping cart. Have at it and save some dough, I like this intake more and more each day.

There is no cold air intakes for the ranger. The filter would have to be relocated out side of the engine compartment to be a true cold air. Like on my focus, the AEM intake places the filter in the fender well behind the valence. As far as aftermarket intakes, I like the AEM brute force, they use the new dryflow filter that doesn't need to be oiled and it's a quality piece that has great fit and finish. Volant systems are close to being cold air as it's an enclosed system, thats another good one. Even though I have one, don't care much for k&n.

Well, the stock airbox is the same for the 2.3, 3.0 and 4.0. If it flows enough air to put out 207 hp on the 4.0, don't you think it will work just fine for your 2.3? The only thing you'll accomplish is to part with some of that money that's burning a hole in your pocket. You can send it to me with the same results!

Seriously, the airbox mod will accomplish just as much as the aftermarket intake, unless you just want it to look custom.

Right, on the 2.3, you can get a high dollar K&N intake, but for that much money, youd be better off with the airbox mod and one of our BamaChips custom tuners. On a 2.3 duratec, we have dyno charts that prove almost 14hp and 20lbs of torque at the wheels, using only an 87 performance tune!

That should definately be your FIRST purchase, as an intake will do little for performance on the 2.3

I wouldn't say thier worthless, I've noticed better throttle response, smoother running engine and they make this really awesome sound like a turbo. In some cases can help improve mpg a tad. The AEM on my focus was good for 6 hp to the wheels, but it didn't have an airbox, it had an unservicable breadbox ha ha. The 2.3 duratec has some decent upgrades out, like cosworth cams. Get yourself a bama, an intake and catback and see how that sounds and feels to you. There's some good products at motorheaven and jusnesmodified for your truck. Also check out some of the focus sites like, focusfanatics, or focaljet as they deal alot with duratec performance. They can be a fun motor with lots of potenial.

i wont hammer you like some peopl ehaving a week engine, its what you currently have, it is what it is. i dont know if injen technology makes one for ford, they make a great cold air system, besides cone location having polished aluminum versus black plastic for air flow helps out with temperature and flow, not much but the concept is there, everything adds up when you do mods. people say your throwing your money but your really not, better air filter= engine breathing better, sounds cool ( you actually for a second or two forget you have a 2.3) its what matters to you. brute force like wendell said good option, i dont know why there site doesnt list 06 models doesnt help out the people with 06 vehicles,

I agree with Ruby, don't waste your money!!! Your 2.3L DOES have the same size intake / filter as the 3.0L, and 4.0L....and if you look at it close, it is a COLD AIR INTAKE!!!!

Actually the 2.3 has a much smaller intake tube than a 4.0, but the airbox is the same.

That's to keep the air velocity up so the MAF sensor will work correctly....

First of all, the poster wants an intakes and wants some names, He didn't ask for opinions or rocket science, just names of good quality intakes. Is that so hard to fathum, or which part don't you understand. This is getting old, instead of answering a question, people start politicing to full fill an agenda. It's no ones business how someone else wants to spend thier money. Intakes are a good thing and provide the fun factor back in an other wise boring truck. It doesn't matter if an intake makes 100 hp or 1 hp, people still want them, buy them and like them. I enjoy mine, it looks good under the hood, makes a great sound, improved throttle response. Also we have sponsers on this site that help suport fte who sell these products. They became sponsers to hopefully increase sales, they help us and hope to help themselfs. If you bash evey mod they sell, your doing them a disseverice and confuse the poster, as thier simple question never gets answered, becuase most of the time these threads turn into an argument and get locked. Opinions are one thing, but this constant mod bashing is rediculious. At least have some respect for our sponsers, if you can't for the poster. THANK YOU !

To answer the original questions, the only aftermarket intake youll find for your engine is the K&N

We have them as well as Jusnes does. Both great places for these.

Nathan, what type of benefits and gains are you looking for, leading you to go for a new intake?
