My 2001 F350 V10 gets resonably good mileage until it get cold. Last week it got the mid twenties and the mileage just dropped like in half, that can't be right. No codes, seems to run fine except for that darn gas gage. Anything I can try to find the culprit.
i was going to say check your hubs but you have a 2wd...fuel filter? plugs wires? dirty dirty dirty filter....start with the cheap stuff! heavy foot lately =)
Thanks for the ideas, I also had a problem with it not starting today, I had to hold the gas down and start it and then it idled, so I might try the cold idle compensator, could be sticking, that could be an issue.
I normally get 10 mpg in summer, 9 in winter, mostly commuting 12 miles to work on sideroads. Of course I also carry about 400 pounds of sand in winter..... I have to believe that a 50% change in mpg is majorly excessive and its not really weather related.....
Such a major decrease in mileage is more normally associated with something like carrying a really good load over the mountains........ You did remember to disconnect your 5er didn't you?......
Wipe the inside of your exhaust pipe clean , run it 10 miles or so when its good and cold, and wipe it again. Hope that its black. If not, you'll have to ask some really nasty questions about where the gas is actually going....
Wait a minute, you have a 2001 V10. I.e., Isn't this is during the years where the heads had a low thread count so the plugs work their loose until they pop out? If you're not already familiar with the issue, search for plug blow-out. And in any event, you're going to want to check your plug torque.

YES...take a look at the Idle Air Control (IAC). I have a step-by-step in my gallery...
Is that the same issue (*A*ssuming it is the same as the modular V8) that they back out?
I had they happen to my expy 5.4L once and it damaged the COP mount. Thankfully I was able to (with my wife coming to get me) to get a new COP and plug at a local parts store and torque it correctly and replace the COP with a new one.
Had never heard of such a thing happening honestly until it happened to me.
