Hello Everyone, Just wondering if any of you have put in 1157 led bulbs? I did this in my 65 F-100 and they work great in the back. But the front signals will not work with them. When I put the regular 1157 bulbs back in and they work fine. Any ideas why the back works and not the front? Thanks.
I have not done this but remember someone saying you needed some kind of resestor or somthing. They don't pull as much voltage. Let us know because I plan on doing the same soon.
I added an extra bulb socket at the rear and use one 1158 (bit brighter) and one of the LED bulbs. Really lights up the rear. The LEDs require a LED type flasher or a bulb somewhere in the circuit.
You need a load equalizer, we have to do the same thing with Harley's when we upgrade to LED or Halogen turn signals. See your local Harley dealer, Drag Specialties part number BLLE02. Should be about $35.00
Thanks a lot for the info. Just wondering where will I install the load equalizer and will this work for all four signals? Also did you put the extra socket for the 1158 bulbs down where the back up lights would go ?
I purchased the 7" headlight w/halogen bulb and led parklight and turn signal through street rods the headlight comes from AutoNik corp and goes through the web sight... here goes guys don't get mad but this is how it reads www.chevsofthe40s.com The point is, in order for the turn signals to work I needed the led flasher they have either 2 prong or three prong they sell for $16.25 each you will actually need two if your hazards have seperate flasher. the last gallery I created has my custom grill in notice no visible turn signals.any ways hope this helps.
The load ezualizer would go in near the TS switch, probably under the dash where you can splice in for both left and right sides. It should run both front and rear. It is a really easy install, with one hot wire, one ground and one each for left and right TS. All it does is create resistance in the circuit to simulate that of an incandescent bulb. Physically, fairly small at about 3" wide, 1.5" tall and .5" deep. Even has sticky on the back so you can glue it up under there somewhere.
But, If there is a flasher that some of these guys are talking about that will do the same thing, that would be much easier as a simple plug-in. I just wasn't aware of anything like that.
