Yep, thet still use the M5OD, and the 2.3 duratec in your focus is like the one in the ranger. The focus has a 18 pound balance shaft near the crank to take out most vibration where as the ranger doesn't, but you'll never notice the difference if I wouldn't of just told ya. Of course they are mounted different and the ranger is detuned a hair to 140 some hp where as the focus st is 151 hp. I had a duratec 5 speed ranger for a weekend, it was like driving a sports car with a bed, it like to rev.
I bought a brand new xl in 01, it still had the lima 2.5 and a 5-speed. That was the greatest little truck, nothing fancy, easy on gas, very reliable and just plain fun to drive. Disn't have to worry about muddy boots, or which cd to bring ha ha. I still miss that truck. I got it for a work truck and had a wrangler for bad weather, but soon realized I needed the 4x4 in the truck, "anyway", thier a great truck.
i think they look so cool. heck i love to have a fx off road 4x4 supercab which i can get hear in Dec, my old man ordered it back in oct but couldnt wait so he picked up a sport super cab 4x4 4.0 nice truck, i drove it the other day. but those little 4 bangers are so cool looking, great on gas, small, good for scooting around town which i do after work and just a plain jane fun truck. hell my 88 mazda 4 banger 5-speed with that little shifter is fun to drive, rev the heck out that little 4 cyclinder. got to find me one.
Thanks for the info, I just looked at a 07 ranger at a dealer. It was a 2.3 L with auto tranny. It does look very much like the 2.3 L in my friend's focus - which is a really nice engine.
I immediately saw something in that new ranger that I really like - there's an aweful lot of room around under the hood to access the engine for maintanence.... about 3 times as much as my 99 ranger.
A five speed manual would be better behind the 4 cylinder if you can drive one. Better mpg and more usable power, not to mention, just plain fun to drive.
