the vin decodes as a 79 250 4x4 built in ontario with a 400 2V. I am pretty sure that it was a standard cab as well. I think that the 3rd # is what says that it was a standard cab.
The emblem on the front fender should be CrewCab. On the reg cabs thats where they put the camper special but on the 4 door it is a Crewcab emblem. thats one thing right on the truck.
That VIN does not match the truck. Looks like a Frankenstein job. Might be a mite hard to get a proper title for it. Impossible in Kansas since it would be crossing the state line.
It has a straight axle with leaf springs.
One door tag is visible in the auction, 7400# GVWR.

I don't know about the motor tilting backwards, it looks like it does, but it does say something about having a 3" bodylift. Maybe he has one of those transfercase drops to improve driveline.
As far as VIN #'s not matching, nobody has swapped parts on a 70's Ford here before?
I have a bed and cab that don't match the frame, the motor is from a Lincoln, the tranny and tcase come from I suppose a F250.......I don't know.
Sounds like a project truck worth looking over in person and then fixing the "Dumb P.O." stuff that many of us find when you buy someone else's 30 year old truck.
I'd give 4k+ for a decent crew body and frame with a half decent interior and a motor that's borderline shot (assuming). How many of these are running through everyone's neck of the woods? Or in your subdivision? Never see them around here that's for sure.
I for one love would to have a crewcab 4x4 from the 70's even if it needed work instead of shelling out big bucks for a new one.
Make it easier to get of us and the dirtbikes around anyhow.
Did the F250's back then come with 44's up front, or should that be a Dana60 as well?
Although I am still curious what we are truly looking at, I tend to agree with 78bigunns - 4K is reasonable if the body is straight and rust free, along with a true crew 4x4 frame. These are getting slimmer to find. The crews I have are both canadian, and It sure looks to me like they took regular cab bodies, hacked them off, and put the roof section/rear doors right on these things.
My GVWR on the 1978 4x4 says #8100 - so there is a difference from what is on the ebay truck sticker.
The F250's mostly came with D44's. The snow fighter package on F250's did have D60's. My 1978 Crew had a D44 in it - I found a 1979 F350 4x4 and bought it for the axle. Now I need to put the F350 badges on it!
