My 97 f350 4x4 seems to be runnng too cool. It rarely sees the first mark on the temp guage (i know these things tend to be inacurate) and has only made it into the normal range once.......towing a gooseneck.......with 6000lbs........up a steep grade. And even then it didn't stay there for long. When I turn the heater on, what blows out could be called slightly warm and it takes a long while after startup to reach that point. I atemted to change the thermostat but the one that the counter jockey gave me would not seal. The old one was closed completely after I took it out of a cold engine so I figure it was working right and put it back in. Any ideas?
oh, and i will add a signature as soon as i figure out how to do it.

The temp gauges on these are pretty much junk! Mine never comes up very far but with my aftermarket temp gauge the truck runs at about 200 degrees. The t-stat sealing probably has nothing to do with the stat but with the housing. they are notorious for leaking once taken apart. I ending using a very small amount of silicone on mine. My truck also takes for ever to come up to temp where I will get any heat from the vents. At the very least about 10 miutes of driving.
so I would get a real temp gauge then you can tell what is really going on. I got my gauge after hearing a few talk of everheating their truck but the gauge never giving any sign that the truck was getting hot.
Thanks for the info guys. I know that the factory gauge is unreliable at best. The big indicator for me is the lack of warmth when I turn the heater on. I'll tru a new ford piece.
