I have recently been going through front tires on my '90 f150 4x4. It is on the inside inch or so of both of them. I also noticed that the camber seems to be way out as the wheels appear to be tilted in (which would account for the tire wear). My questions is, I have heard that this is typical on some models but I would like to remedy the situation. I am just not sure what component would need to be replaced. I plan on doing this as soon as Michigan thaws out some (no garage). Right now I am going through used tires about every other month. Found cheap good used tires but it will start adding up soon. Any thoughts would be helpful.
That sounds like an alignment problem to me, If all of the front end components are solid and not worn out, an alignment shop should be able to pull everything into spec, and theoretically fix the problem, unless something is worn out or bent (which was my problem - bent radius arm and axle housing)
I have a similar situation but the outside edge of my front tires are wearing quicker. I need new tires soon so I plan to have an alignment done when I get the new tires and hope that fixes the problem.
Alignment sounds like a good idea. Buying used tires till you get it fixed right isnt really the proper solution! Just think of what else you may be wearing out!
I Had A The Same Problem Went To Have An Alignment Done And They Said They Couldnt Do Cuz My Front Springs Were Warn Out So I Replaced Them And They Stopped Wearing On The Inside. So All U Maybe Need Is New Front Springs.
Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like I need new springs and an alignment. I will give the springs a try as they are not too difficult to replace. Luckily right now I am only driving around town so there is not much wear occuring. So as soon as it quits snowing I will give it a try.
When you get your alignment, you might need to relplace the ball joints as well with an old truck. Sometimes the ball joints get rusted together and then the job gets a lot tougher.
