Cleaning my 1950 F2 - steam cleaning vs. pressure wash

Any suggestion out there as to how best to clean the undercarriage, engine etc. on my 1950 F2? Truck came off a farm and has lots of caked on dirt, grease etc. I was thinking about a pressure steam cleaner but they are prohibited to be used on private vehicles out here in Southern Cal. Will a high pressure washer work? Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

I've used spray on oven cleaner and let sit for about 10 minutes it'll even take some of the paint off.

If the truck just came off the farm and is not registered, use the steam washer - if you are questioned by the authorities, tell them you are parting it out and want the thing to be clean when you crawl under it.

If it is running and registered, be patient and use a small putty knife. Most of the dry stuff will pry off in sheets and the knife will get in behind most of your lines and brackets. Then use a pressure washer to soak off the dust that is left behind.

Good luck!

What's up with that? What, are they scared you're going to disturb your retired neighbors? I thought that's why we broke away from England.

Anyway....... Never mind.

Who cares what the law says in the Land of Fruits and Nuts?
Just do whatever it takes where you cant be seen and reported by a EnviroNazi.

I use a regular Campbell Hausefield pressure washer with Castrol Super Clean concentrate that is fed right off my home hot water boiler that I crank up to about 230 degrees. It doesnt take long to do the job in 2-3 passes and I use heavy duty garden hose with no problems at 30-50 lbs input pressure.

Check around there must be commercial places that steam clean cars and trucks. Look for a "BLUE BEACON" truck wash. Blue Beacon cleans semi's and semi trailers. Here in michigan you can get your size "8" truck cleaned for around 100 bucks. This is the truck, trailer and engine.

HEY!

I make my living as an EnviroNazi...

Granted, I also drive a pickup truck and have a '50 in the stable.

...apparently I'm not a very good EnviroNazi. Anyone hiring? Maybe in the pulp and paper industry?

Will work for tools.

Cleaning my 1950 F2 - steam cleaning vs. pressure wash

I just bought a pressure washer last summer, 2100 psi. That thing will write your name in concrete. If you are just trying to get off old caked up dirt, why not use the power washer? Just cover up the distributor, sparkbox, and carb. with a plastic bag, then go crazy. I won't even need soap or hotwater. I wish that I had this washer before I sent my chassis off to the sandblaster. The guy at the shop told me that there was no rust, just a bunch of 30 year old Georgia dirt.

And remember to recycle those plastic bags that you used.

MY TWO CENTs

Chris
