I went into ford and they said that my turbo has to be replaced. That was a week ago. The first couple of days, I hardly had any acceleration. I had problems of excessive turbo back pressure and higher than normal RPM's. Yesturday on my way to work, it started to surge again. After being parked for 12 hrs, i started it up, drove home and there was no more surging, no high RPM's and no turbo farting. It drove like a dream.
My truck has the latest flash. The cycling of the fuel injectors after turning off the truck. Im not sure what else is in the new flash. Did they do an update to the VGT to cycle if the turbo vanes get stuck? i just cant believe that the truck fixed itself and thats saving me a pretty penny.

The turbo can stick and unstick depending on temperature among other things. Of all problems that CAN disappear, this is number one. I suggest running the truck as hard as you possibly can for the next few days; the extra temperature will help to burn out any carbon deposits that are in the turbo.
If that doesn't correct the issue, its not a matter of replacing the turbo but simply cleaning it. The dealer is trying to screw you if they want you to replace it, because FMC even has a TSB out for this. Ford will even charge the dealership back if a good turbo that could have been fixed by cleaning is sent in as a core on a warranty claim, so I know good and well they know better..simply a case of trying to screw the customer.
