Just got back from the dealer. I went in to get my remote start alarm system installed, paint on the glass, and some kind of leak coming from the rear of the engine.
-Remote start, I couldnt be more dissatisfied with the system. First the idiot service advisor had no knowledge of how the thing works. Second it only works half the time, third the alarm sucks! It uses the horn. How lame. No one told me that. They said it was an awesome system. I guess thats what i get for listening to the idiot sales people. And they also said you can use the key pad to enter your combo and will deactivate the alarm. They were way wrong. That sets off the alarm. Which brings me to my question......does anyone know a good remote start/alarm/maybe turbo timer that allows you to use the key pad to deactivate the alarm?? Hopefully so because i want an alarm but i use my key pad all the time.
Is the RS/Alarm a Ford system? If so, then the keypad can be programmed into the system just like the keyfobs. The key here is that it actually has to be programmed in, the system isn't going to just recognize it automatically. If it's not a Ford or Code-Alarm system your keypad is not compatible. Hopefully, they gave you an owners guide to go with it. If not, we can probably get you one. As far as using the horn and not a siren. . .I have no idea why they used the horn. The current Ford RS/Security systems come with a siren, as do just about every system I can think of that's worth installing.
Just let us know a little more info about which brand and model system you have and we'll see what we can do.
Im guessing the ford system. I bought it the day of purchase and i got ripped off at $799. No manual. I guess they were supposed to give me one but never did. So if the system comes with a siren and I paid the rediculous amount then what the heck. I called the service advisor and told him that crazy and i want it taken out. He told me to call back tomorrow and schedule an appointment. Im sure for 799 i can get an awesome after market system with more bells and whistles instead of this half working 4 button piece. Sorry for the rant i was just expecting a lot more. Thanx for your help.
Does the transmitter have Ford Motor Company on the back of it? And $799 is, IMO, wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much for a basic RS/Security system install on our SD's. And not to rub salt in your wounds, but, yes, you could've gotten a lot better 2-way paging system from DEI (Viper, Astrostart, Clifford) or CompuStar for that price. But they wouldn't work with your keypad.

I emailed compustar and they told me it would integrate wit the keypad but not the ford remote.

I think you may be right. I believe in 2006 Ford went back to the wired keypads. If that's the case, then all of the ones I mentioned above can probably be integrated as well.
