Put a socket on it, unscrew it and screw in the new one. Disconnect wire first of course and reconnect on the new one. Use a bit of anti seize on the new one. More or less a spark plug type device. No big deal.
should come with small tube of antiseize lube....if not get some from auto parts store....high tem O2 safe antiseize....size of q tip head smear on threads only....keep away for sensor tip
They make a special 02 sensor socket, but in at least my 97 3.0, the
02 sensor is readily accessible underneath with a closed-end wrench.
That will slip on easily after you disconnect the wire. That's all I used.
My 02 sensor came pre-lubed with anti-seize. Slam dunk.
I replaced both 02 sensors in my 94 Grand Marquis 4.6 and both were
a pain in the butt (and back, and knuckles). Aerostar was a comparative
breeze.
I've never had any problems using an open-ended or adjustable wrench. I also happen to have some really large box-end wrenchs that fit the hex. Those sizes will usually slip right over the connector so you can thread the wires through it and place it completely over the hex.
The best sensors for these are generally Denso or Bosch. The dealer is expensive, but see if you can find those through a local parts supplier. The front and rear sensors may be different. Just wondering, are you replaceing them due to age, or are you experiencing a problem that might be associated.
Absolutely. Old worn out sensors cause poor fuel economy and other problems. It is better to avoid problems are replace the sensor than to have to replace other more expensive components and a sensor.
