Hi guys. I bought a 2003 7.3 F250 long box last month and I am not sure what size fuel tank it has. I had a friend say it was 30 gallons but I have already filled it over 32 gallons twice and it wasn't bone dry. Thanks for the input. Steve
My 99 350 CC LB came with a 38 gal tank stock. Worked fine till I punctured it and slapped on a 55 gal tank. Now I get 740 miles between fill ups (13.7 mpg)
I got the tank from Aero Tanks out in Norco or somewhere near there in So Cal. To install it all I had to do was hold the tank to the frame (I used a motorcyle jack 'cause it's bigger) and drill eight holes through the frame and crossmembers where necessary. The instructions say to just drop the bolts through the holes, raise the tank up and run on the washer, lock washer, and nut. OF COURSE it wasn't that easy- the bolts didn't want to line up and sometimes got knocked back inside the frame, so I had to lower the damn thing and start all over. I finally got frustrated and tack welded the bolts to the frame and that kept them from getting knocked out. BUT THEN I had to wallow out the holes on the tank bracket because you know how the frame goes at an angle over the rear axle... All in all, I hated paying $622 (no tax with cash) but I always wanted a bigger tank, and in these tanks the filler neck only goes in about 1/2 an inch, so it's got the torpedo mod built it. My only gripe is that the roll-over check valve they gave me does not seal, so whenever I fill it ALL the way, it leaks about a pint or so. The fit is tight by the hanger bearing between driveshafts, and you'll need a stubby ratchet wrench to tighten the left side bolt. And you also only have about 3/8" cleatance between the forward u-joint on the rear driveshaft, so you gotta make sure you get the tank as close to the left frame rail as possible. Would I do it again on my next truck, hell yeah. Hope that answers your questions, lemme know if you got anymore.
Oh, almost forgot the original question LOL, it fits in the stock location but extends up past the bed to a bit under the cab. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow on my FTE page. Now that I'm a SUPPORTER I can do that stuff.
