Towing Package
Bluegrass 7, I have been towing for over 35 years including everything from "deep keel" sailboats, to race car trailers, utility trailers, and campers. I have towed from Ohio to New England, Texas, Florida, and as far west as Montana. My first job out of high school was repairing and rewiring semi-trailers for Schwerman Trucking Company. I used to be part owner of an "extra storage" company that rented out old semi-trailer to use for warehousing, and I dropped and picked these trailers up. I have owned over a dozen pickups (most of which did towing) and 2 RV's. My current trucks are a 2004 Double Cab Toyota Tundra (with the Tow Package) and a 1999 Ford F-150 Lariat with the Tow Package. My current trailer is an enclosed 7,500 lb gross weight Roadmaster. The last truck I sold was a 1995 F-350 equipped for towing a recreational trailer with a 5th wheel.
Somewhere along the thread I lost track of exactly who said what, and I forgot that you were the one that did such extensive modifications for towing. My point was that merely plugging in a 7 pin harness would not make all the pins functional - that some additional fuses and relays would be required. Maybe the 2002 and up have the electrical components already in place - I don't know. The etrailer website will sell the proper harness and it clearly states that the relays and fuses would be included. Perhaps when you buy the harness from Ford, they include them as well.
Also, some of the items I mentioned, I knew were not part of the towing package per se, but as I mentioned, it seemed as though the trucks were equipped with combinations of packages/options that seemed to lump them together.
