MY 99's original batteries just went south..I am in favor of Optima's with I run in my drag car...the main thing I worry about with lower quality batteries is how much they vent and badly corrode terminals!!! not gonna happen with an optima..But working in an automative svc dept I see high end lead acid batteries that cause no corrosion...Optima's arnt cheep I agree,But I hate batteries that corrode terminals!!!...

HEY..also what Optima part # for the powerstroke...I had to use the red top from my camaro the other day and the stock battery hold down wont work..battery thinner dosent fill the tray...

I just conducted a search for battery type at the optima battery web site to see what model fits my truck. I was suprised to see the answer from their web....NO BATTERY AVAILABLE> What the heck kind of answer is that from a large battery manufacturer? I sent them an email but havnt received an answer yet. Anyone have an answer to this? My 4.5 year old stock batteries are showing signs of death.

01 PSD. I have two reds in my rig and no problems or leaky acid for over three years now. I splattered acid in my eye behind safty glasses and had to wear a patch for a few days. I only use optimas from then on.
They just are a little narrower so youll have to modify the hold down clamps. They fit fine under the stock plastic housing on the driver side.

Had in my sandrail for 5 years. During that time, I accidently stabbed its red top with my sawzall. Dripped a drop of gew, and dident even phase it's performance. I sold my rail with that same battery working fine.

Talking

I did a search on your website for a battery to fit my 2002 F-350 diesel.
I was surprised to find there was no battery available. Why is that?

Here is my reply from Optima.

Hello Tom,

Sorry for the inconvenience. Our application guide is not 100% accurate.
The good news is we do produce a battery for your application.. For your
application of a 2002 Ford F-350 diesel, the correct battery would be our
Redtop 34 if you are in need of batteries for just starting purposes.. If
you plan on running any aftermarket accessories such as a high powered
audio system or winch then we would recommend our dual purpose
starting/deep cycle Yellowtop D34 model.. Please review attached spec
sheets for both models (please disregard the 34R model on first spec
sheet)..

where do you see a lifetime warranty ? on the redtop it reads :

<table border="1" bordercolor="#000000" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="tableText" style="font-weight: bold;" rowspan="1" colspan="2" align="center" height="13" valign="middle" width="100%">Warranty Info</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="tableText" style="" rowspan="1" colspan="1" align="" height="13" valign="middle" width="45%">12V Passanger Vehicle / Light Truck (noncommercial)</td> <td class="tableText" style="" rowspan="1" colspan="1" align="" height="13" valign="middle" width="54%">36 Months Free Replacement, Remaining 36 Month Prorated</td></tr></tbody></table>
on the yellow top it's the same but 12 months / 12 months ..

Bought mine like 10 years ago. Came with an attached envelope. Warranty was inside. When I called them, they gave me a PO and called our local Napa. Haven't had an Issue scents. Times change. Next time in Napa I will look.

Well 10 years and it still works. But I don't doubt that the warranty has changed.
There is two issues with them that most aren't aware of and thy are. Do not over charge (in as much as a full fielding alt) and do not use a battery charger on them. Both will kill it and void any warranty. I was told this by Optima when calling there 1-800 number and have seen It first hand. Jump start is OK and charge in truck to be safe. There are veins wrapped around the coils under the foam that are almost microscopic. Each coil wrap is separate so you can run it into the fan and cut half a coil of and all it dose is lose that one coil or cell. I have also seen this happen and the battery still worked for years on a PSD till he sold the truck. No I am not a salesman. But I am sold on them.

OK. After reading all about the yellow tops, that is what I decided to go with this time. I made my own clamps using all-thread and some angle iron. Total cost for the two yellow tops including tax came out to $405.00.

Note: the red tops were fine, but I needed batteries for both the Falcon convert and the dune buggy. I decided I would rather have new batteries in the daily driven truck than new ones in the toys.
