Yes it's possible. Just make sure that the bellhousing pattern is the same (300, 302, 351w are the same, 460 & diesel are the same) and the trucks are either both 2wd or both 4wd.
The early transmissions have a different shift lever that can be swapped with the old one. 460 (7.5l) and diesel transmission housings are NOT the same or interchangable.
The 300, 302, and 351w all share the same bellhousing pattern. The 460 and diesel share a different bellhousing pattern, and isn't compatible with the smaller engine's.
I must be looking at an aod instead of an e40d I found one cheap to replace my very expensive 12 year old tranny is it posible to swap this one in to my 95 f-150

Yes it is, but when going to a different tranny, you may need a different crossmember to support it, and if the length is different by more than a couple inches you will need different driveshaft(s). Also, if you are actually looking at an AODE (electronic) instead of an AOD you'll need the correct computer to run it.
Good question - everything I've read here and other places says that the 460 and diesel bellhousings are the same. How are the different? Can you take some pics? I'd love to see them.
