I understand....thats exactly what im dealing with, its absoltely rediculas. This issue and the inability of the dealership to fix it has soured me on the ford diesel. I wouldnt recommend this engine to anyone.
I hear ya, I loved my 6.0 and I looked all over for a truck that had one when I was shopping because of its power and durrability but now I am starting to not like it. When it is warm, it runs like a champ. I still do not understand how Ford Dealerships can charge $100. per service call for Warranty work.. They get paid big bucks from Ford for Warranty work plus they charge me.. What is the Warranty for? I guess it maks sence to not fix it the first time then I have to come back and pay them again. sigh sigh
I have a 04 with 112K and it has a problem with cold starts too. I got lucky and had the latest flash done (injector buzz for 30 seconds) for free because it was due for the 05E15 Recall.
Anyhow if I turn it on and wait for the GP light to go out, it just cranks no start or starts and misses. But if I turn it to on and wait for the fuel pump to speed up ( listen for the change in speed) then turn off and on wait FP again,,, do this six times, then start, it fires right up. Humm?.
The Engine Oil Temp sensor control's the fuel, timing, glow plugs,,, if it is out of spec. maybe???, this could be it.
I am awaiting my scanner (had to upgrade to CAN) to get here so I can scan the computer and check for codes and it will also tell me the reading of the EOT sensor when engine is cold.
The check engine light is not on and it runs great after warm-up. Yes I still have the V10 too.

I was having some hard starting issues for about a month before my HPOP went out - leaking at the o-ring was slight enough that it could finally build enough pressure to fire the injectors. Might want the dealer to look at that.
I too had to take my truck in for a recall and they did a flash update. Then they told me to change the oil to light 10W30 instead of the Mobile one 15w30 I had in it. It does start a bit better but not like it used to and it runs real rough on cold days.... Hummmmmm?????

Try the on off, on off thing about six times and then try the start. I understand the oil issue, but buy doing the on off thing I think this is keeping the Glow plugs on longer. I am still awaiting my scanner to do some more testing on mine.

for alot of these cold starts first make sure you have the latest reprogram that buzzes the injectors. after this and you still have issues try a diesel 10w30 oil. if your glow plugs are not working that will cause a no or hard start on these. check the black and green connectors and make sure they are not lose or broken as i have seen both.
Me too, seems like its missing. Winters dont get that cold around here 25 degrees is about the coldest and it ran like a champ last winter. The only thing thats changed on my 04 is; o5e15 and the fuel. Ive also been running stanadine Perf. for about 3 months and almost always plug in. I just hope it isnt hurting anything because I still love this rig.
