I’m not going to say I’m not having fun, but why does one thing lead to another? After changing the batteries and getting a new starter I fixed that problem but in the process I have found more issues. It just turned cold and now I’m having fun getting the truck going…bad glow plugs (issue #2). While I’m checking the glow plugs I find a small pool of oil behind the fuel filter, just behind the high pressure oil pump. It’s in a small divot on top of the intake manifold. I noticed that some of the wiring harnesses have oil on them and some has run down the top edge of the valve covers. I have no idea where it’s coming from. It has run down the back side of the engine just along the rear left and right head corners and down both sides of the flywheel drive plate (found while changing starter!). When I take the valve covers off (glow plug issue#2) I’ll get a better view but I was hoping someone might have some suggestions. Any suggestions for a dye to use or fittings to check?
both line fittings on the hpop and there is a plug on the back of the pump. also where the lines go into the head, but since you say right behind the bowl i would go for the pump.
And you can buy dye for your oil. It might take 2 vials with a diesel but you put it in, run it a few minutes, and recommended is hit it with a blacklight, however, a very bright light will also make it glow a little if you don't have a blacklight around. I use a halogen spotlight. It shows up flourescent green.
