Get a gallon at least, and HVLP spray gun. It depends what color you are using too and how detailed you want it. If you are goin to paint every spot you can you will need more than a gallon of paint plus reducer & plus clearcoat and activator. so I suggest using Base/clear system. PPG's DBU is more forgiving than the DBC. DBU is slightly cheaper also.
2 coats minumum with base/clear system for spraying color and clear so about a total of 4 or 5 coats of paint.
If using enamel I would go with 3 coats total
If using Urethane enamel I usually go 3 coats at the most

the first question is are you taking it apart or just sand & spray all over also are you painting the inside of the bed to look as good as the outside of the truck.it takes alot of paint to spray one apart.i just finished my 79 2wd crew cab took 3 gallons but i painted every thing inside & out .but just an all over outside only 1 gallon kit should be fine.
