my '86 F150, EFI 302, manual transmission. Say your going down the road at 50-55 mph (other speeds too, just an example). So your cruising along and you want to accelerate to 55-60. No need to downshift, just lightly press on the gas. Well you do that, and nothing really happens. There's no smooth acceleration. After a certain point you kinda feel it kick and go, but I don't want it to kick and go, I want it to smoothly accelerate. This is without downshifting.
It really pisses me off, and I'm not about to take it to a garage so they can spend days and dollars replacing everything just because it's an old truck and they don't know what's wrong with it either.
I had a 88 Mustang that had the same problem. I replaced the clutch and all it's goodies (plate, bearing, etc) and was good as new....only cost about 140 bucks and a weekend in the drive way. Can you make it slip when you rev on the gas?
Im sure other people will chime in with a better soultion then mine. Good luck.
Have you changed your fuel filters recently? Make sureto change the on that sits just behind the driver seat on the frame. Its in a little black canister.
