I am going to pull my turbo to install a wicked wheel. While I am there I plan to install new turbo base and pedestal orings. What is serviceable/rebuildable on the turbo and what parts are necessary. I need to have all parts on hand so I can get this done over a weekend. I don't want to rebuild the turbo itself just replace any wearable parts/seals that I can. Anyone have a diagram w/ parts list for the turbo? Any other advice or guidance would be appreciated.
Well, if you aren't leaking oil, then rebuilding the actual turbocharger is a bad idea if you arent going to have it professionally balanced. I guess im a hypocrite, but thats beside the point. If you are installing the ww on the truck, you don't need to replace any seals, really. If you are removing the turbo from the truck, it's a good idea to remove the pedestal also, and replace both upper and lower o-rings for the supply and return ports on the turbocharger.
There is a slight oil leak back there and I can't tell where. Isn't the EBPV located in the turbo and (I may be way off here) doesn't it use oil pressure to operate? If so, it could be the source of the leak. I only want to pull this once and would like to have any parts I may need whether I use them or not.
Steve,
About a year ago I had a similar situation, oil in the valley below the turbo. I was hoping it was just misting from the CCV into the intake getting through my boots, but actually it was the pedestal o-rings. Since I was in there, I got a pedestal rebuild kit from dieselsite.com to get all those seals etc replaced as well, and I remember needing another few seals that I had to get from another place (can anyone remind me? I'm not on my regular computer so I can't track down where right now) to get everything done.
Off the top of my head I think there were o-rings around the solenoid, a large o-ring on the intake housing, o-rings on the pedestal, and then maybe more in the EPBV area. I know I replaced most everything since I was in there.
I would also recommend getting the upgraded housing bolts - I just found out that one of mine are missing, so I've got to go back in and pull the turbo again next weekend. Fun. I hope someone can chime in here and give you the part number for those bolts (it's a four bolt kit)... anyone?
