AM Radio help?
figured trying to get the old AM radio functioning might be a decent project. Hooked a speaker to it and hit the power and get a rotary buzz sound out of it. Pulled the cover and replaced the light bulb, hit the power...that works. Drppoed the radio and turn it on and can hear a rotary faint noise from inside. Pull the cover and listen with a hose to the ear and it seems to come from where the power lead goes into a cylindrical housing on the top side of inner housing. Inside it is a copper coil wrapped in a cardboard tube with a foam outer lining(thats toast). Transistor ? anywho anyone have any advice on what might need to be done to make it play baseball games instead of miniature farts ?
Upon further research it seems the noise is actually coming from another coil that is mounted to the backside of the face of the redio with a square metal housing, three wires. One of which is pink and leads to what looks like a small speaker magnet on the face side next to the light bulb..
