My Truck: 1997 F350 with 351 E40D
Problem: internittent engine missing when warmed up between 35mph and 55mph
I got some codes from my EEC-IV where KOEO reports 172 and 334 and KOER 172. So, 172 is the HEGO reporting a lean mixture where as the 334 is EGR closed voltage higher than expected. Are these symptoms related? Do I need a new EGR and/or HEGO?
I've got lots of other codes too, mostly related to me learning how to start these KOEO and KOER tests. Fun stuff, I'll write up an easier guide than the ones I have read once I try out a couple of more things.
The o2 and EGR codes are probably not related. I think I had the same problem on my 89 and a new EGR sensor fixed it. The o2s may just need to be replaced, they should replaced about 30-60K miles (30K for standard and 60k for platnum.)
I think sunon or sun-pro have a really easy $30 code reader. It beeps and flashes, plus the mil still flashes. It's a plug and play tool and worth all 3,000 pennies.
Thanks, I couldn't find the sun-xxx readers but I did find Equus 3145 and Innova 3145 pricing from $18 to $30. That's affordable for sure and as you say, worth every penny not to have to watch and count all those blinks!
from: http://www.gadgetsgalorestore.com/garage.php "The EPI 3145 is an affordable hand held OBD-1 scan tool from Equus and was designed for most Ford and Mercury 1982 to 1995 domestic cars and trucks.... "
As long as the codes for the 1997 F350 didn't change it should be compatible.
