What color were the bellhousings on 58 or 59 F-100's with 223 and standard trans? If you are not sure, please give me your best guess! I need to paint this before I install.
It's a start! I thank you for your input! If I get enough responses, just from people telling me what color their bellhousing is, we may be able to come up with some consensus of opinion. My block is black but my bellhousing has traces of blue paint on it. I hope to paint it before I stick it back in. A mechanic I know believes they came from the factory as a blue like "Petty Blue" not the Ford Blue we have today. Thanks again for your input and please everyone, help me if you can.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Mar-02 AT 10:15 AM (EST)]thought i posted a reply here b4 but either it got erased, or lost in space when i sent it in.
my 58 merc 223 had the pewter (dirty silver) engine block with orange valvecover & the b/h appeared the same silver, & i know these are original colors as the original owners of the truck said the motor was never out.
however i have a pic in a sales ad that shows the power team as orange with a silver valvecover.
best explanation i can give of the pewter silver i can come up with is lookit most of the new cars on the market today (particularly gm truck) there are a ton of these colors out there currently, when i did my engine over in 94/95 i just took some silver met, & put a bitta brown & bitta black into it & it was close nuff' for me....& thats pretty close). i've just used dupont centari acrylic enamel car paint on all of the engines iv'e done over the past 7 or 8 years i've done & it seems to be standing up rather well. even used base clear on a few of the valvecovers & oilpans & such.......it too stands up well
