I've got a 2004 FX4 Ranger with the 60/40 split bech seat. The cupholders that came with this truck are terrible! They are not deep enough to contain anything from tipping over. When I've got a drink in there, like my hot morning coffee, I feel like Im driving a stick shift in the sense that I have to keep one hand on the wheel and the other on my cup, because every time I hit the gas, break, or turn, the cup goes flying!
Im refering to the detachable cupholders that are attached to the seat, as I have that odd black pad thing on the floor in place of where some model Rangers have an extra set of cupholders.
My question is, can I get another (set of?) cupholders to replace the ones I have? Since they are detachable, I was wondering if there are some out there that would fit, either off an other Ford vechical, or an aftermarket set. They just need to be a little deeper.
BTW, again I have a 2004, and I know Ford had the door map pockets with the bottle holders in them avalible in the 2003 Explorers, F150's and others, why didn't they put them in the Ranger line????
Look for a good set of buckets and console from a newer ranger. I have a '03 FX4 with buckets and it has accomadations for most sizes of cups made. The center console holds two different size cups and fits most drive through larges and coffee mugs.
You can also try them cupholders that most stores sells that stick into the window jam and hang down from the door. That would be a cheep way to starts.
You might be able to change the consoul that in mounted to your seat to an older one. My '02 has an awesome drink hold in the flip down arm rest/consoul. The one in the floor is okay, it fits 32oz drinks perfect, and also 12 oz cans if you pull up the coller that is in there but i never use them. I have my Siruis satelite radio reciever mounted to the drink holder on the passenger side, and on the river side i have my ash cup in there, and use that for all my change.
My 02 has the little console on the floor. I was dissapointed with I got it a couple of months ago that the cupholders in it were useless too. Everything just tipped over in them. THEN...I discovered that there's a little "inner ring" that pops up to lengthen the cupholder to hold things correctly. I felt like an idiot for not realizing they were there, but now I love them. They pop down for big things/mugs, and back up for tall, narrow things like bottles of water.
Thanks for the idea, but I dont like the window clip cupholders. Im afraid my dumba** would forget and put the window down while I had a drink in them!
It's really frustrating, I had a '99 4X4 Sport that had the 4 cupholders that were mentioned and they were great!
I cant put anything in these with out holding on to it.
Does anyone know if I can get that "inner ring" thing that tomtoc mentioned he had at a dealer???
ALL I WANT IS TO NOT HAVE HOT COFFEE ON MY LEG! LOL!
The ring that tomtoc i believe is talking about is specifc only to manuals. The shifter comes out of the floor and has two cupholders surrounding it on either side. They have a smaller bottom for a smaller cup like a soda can, but do have an inner groove to hold the sliding support that you can raise for taller cans, like energy drinks. Ifyou don't use the flat spot on the floor on the floor console, you could take out the old one and put in a new one from a pre -04 automatic truck. That should have two cupholders in the unit... The holders in my '04 MY seem to work good, its an auto. The holders in my '03 manual are horrible in my opinion even with the sliding holder...
mine is an 02 auto with the console on the hump in the floor. it's got 2 cupholders in front (with rings) and then a little tray behind them.
i always laugh that my 98 monte carlo (seats 5, 4 comfortablly) had 1 cupholder. my ranger (seats 5, but basiclly seats 2) has 5 cupholders - 2 mentioned above, 1 great one in the armrest, and 2 in the rear covering the jack. no complaints, just find it funny.
I use the black pad thing/"storage area" for my XM radio. "eigenvictor" are your cupholders removable? Im wondering if they are good if they'll fit an '04. I have auto, BTW.
I bought a Monster Energy drink on my way to the gym today and the can, like my coffee, had to be held all the way there and back. I love my truck but this flaw is bugging me!
Will that rubber removable inner ring Ford has on the new Ranger models with the flow through center consoles fit in my cupholders?
