Mustang tank install
Someone asked me an interesting question today. They read my article on the Mustang tank rear frame install and questioned if mounting the tank hard to the frame was causing a danger of fire... someone had suggested to him that strap mounting let the frame flex and would avoid the problem..
I can't see how that could be a problem... but am asking for your opinions... I don't see my frame flexing that much, but I don't know everything... any guesses, experience, opinions ??

The frame is by design supposed to flex under load. I think the frame could flex enough to cause a potential problem only under the stress of the truck doing real truck work over the course of many miles. Having said that, I still don't think it is likely it would ever present a problem. You could also provide a means to absorb the very slight amount of movement involved with rubber or teflon strips, washers etc. between the mount you fabbed and either the tank or frame. I don't think I would lose any sleep if you left it just like it is. But then again, I am not worried about the fuel tank 12 inches under my seat. If a fuel tank explodes while mounted anywhere on a vehicle you are riding in, you are going to have a real bad day. It obviously never hurts to be safe, but fuel tanks are not nearly as prone to explode as many people think. I once towed a GM station wagon that had a bad electrical fire. It burned to the ground. Virtually everything combustible was gone including the tires. When we returned to the shop, we had to dismount the fuel tank which was still full of fuel before we scrapped the car.
