I have a 2003 250 SD 4X4 XL 6.0L PSD. Since we have gotten the ARTIC BLAST here in Krum, I noticed yesterday that when it is real cold 30F and below. When I start my truck even if i let it warm up good the first time i shift from PARK to either REVERSE or DRIVE as soon as i give it just a little throttle i hear and feel a clank somewhere under the truck. It will only do this once, after i am going it stops, unless i turn it off and let it set and get cold. Transmission fluid looks and smells good. Any thoughts from the pros?
No i have only had the truck about three weeks. I can't remember parking on a hill. I used the 4 wheel drive yesterday on my land and it seemrd to work good

well the torqshift tranny is noisy at times and it is normal. but since you just bought the truck, i would go get it looked at incase your seller needs to fix something. then again nothing might be wrong.
I bought it used at a Ford dealership, they say of course that they check every trade in throughly before they put it out on the line to sell. I guess i will watch it for a while. Thanks for the info!
Your noise is very likely the slip joint on the drive shaft. The splines get dry and don't slide properly and cause a clank sound when they suddenly slip. When the weather warms up, pull it apart and lubricate the splines with a little grease.
I agree with bowtie and colorado-native. Some noises are normal, some aren't... and it's really hard to hear a noise over a monitor. Better to be safe than sorry, and get it checked out.
i took my truck in today to the dealership. they said they could not find any problems with it, everything is tight. Ther is a Ford servive message that describes the noise, but Ford said it is normal, and not to worry. wee will see i guess
