Anyone got DSL...........and how do you like it? I have roadrunner at the moment, but we are trying to figure if we really need it. The roadrunner is nice, but it is expensive. Thanks for any and all replies.

I have it and love it. Mine is quicker than the T1 I have a work and I live off my laptop and a router.

I would never go back to ping and ding.

I had DSL but went with cable. My cable is alot faster than DSL. I really have no idea how much bandwidth I was paying for with DSL, so my results may be skewed. Either one is better than "ping and ding." Thats a good one AZtrainer.

DSL is highly dependent on the quality of the phone lines. I had it, and ditched it because the phone lines in the building were of such poor quality the signal was sketchy at best and non-existant if it rained. Of course, the phoneman says, "I'm sorry to hear about *your* problem". After getting cable, I realize what I was missing.

Not everyone's experience will be the same - but DSL is useless in the building we live in.

I had dialup and have lived in places where only dialup is available. I like my DSL which is much faster than dialup. I have wireless on my laptop and many evenings are spent with it on my lap sitting in my favorite chair.

Dsl speeds depend on several factors. 1 how far you are from main offoce. 2 what type of path used to get to you (copper or fiber). I work with this daily and will tell you that cable is overpriced and not as secure. With DSL you are on your own line and with the cable your speed is dependant on how many are on line at the same time(slows down). Whatever you do stay with your local telephone company for phone service or you will be sorry!

We had DSL but changed over to cable for two reasons:

1. Cable was about $10/month cheaper
2. We were able to get a cable moden without having to purchase cable TV (we have satellite TV).

Cable is noticeably faster than DSL for us and we like it a lot more.

I have vonage and think it is great, especially the price. I would not even have that, but, my wife did not want to go to all cell phones. Main reason for having it now (for me) is for the house alarm, but, if I could really afford the $30 a month I would go wireless on that too.

I run DSL, I won't run cable mainly because we have no choice on cable companies, you must switch your phone, and buy the cable tv too (I don't want cable or satilite tv at all) and by the time you pay for the cable TV, Phone, and internet it's $135/mon, my total phone bill including long distance and my DSL is usually around $100 so it's basically a no brainer for me. And it's ssssoooooo much faster than the dial up was plus it doesn't tie up my phone line all the time.

I have DSL through Qwest. It's stated as being a 7MB service but in the fine print it states average speeds of 3-5mb. I'm getting 4.2MB right now which is alright. At about $40 a month it's not that expensive and the speed is decent. Reliability for the most part is spot on.

It's a world of difference versus 56k.

I have DSL. I had some early problems where I would lose connection, but that was just at beginning. Since then no problems at all. And its cheaper that dial up. I was paying $22 for dial up and now I'm paying $14 for DSL.

We got rid of our DSL about 15 months ago and went with Cable modem. We had much better reliability with the cable modem

We just recently changed to Verizon FIOS and it BLOWS the socks off both DSL and cable modem (In our area anyways) I would strongly reccomend it if it is available to you. reasonably priced at that (for high speed access)
