Question 429 Maximum Cam Lift

So I'm starting with a stock 10.5:1 1968 429 Thunderjet. Plans are for electronic ignition, two race tuned 600cfm Holleys on a Buddy Bar Casting low-rise manifold, solid lifter cam, ported exhaust, polished int./exh., milled heads (11.5:1) and custom made headers. The big question is, how big of a cam can I get without valve clearance issues? Its mainly for car shows and drag racing, so I dont mind fighting with it once and a while on the street. Whats physically the biggest cam I can get away with? Thanks,
-Dean

You'll need valve reliefs in the piston, especially with milled heads. Your best bet would be to get in contact with comp or crane or whoever you like, tell them your combination and your plans for the vehicle for a custom grind cam. Bigger is not better with cams.

There is not such thing as max lift, it depends on many factors such as the installed height and length of the springs, whether you milled the guides down to allow more clearance, the valve reliefs in the pistons, on and on. best thing to do on something like that is get a flow sheet on your heads and work the cam up based on that and your intended use and RPM range.
